Describe 2 highlights that caught your attention in our readings or discussions for this week. Why were these significant for you?

1. In the reading it discusses planning for the future. I think this is important when it comes to reference. The books are expensive and often times a great portion can be found in databases, so it is important to think through purchases.

2. The other point that was taken was that if information is outdated or wrong it must be weeded. I have gone through my library and taken several items out that are just not current anymore. (Many of these being health/technology books)

What are your thoughts about the tools provided by DPI for library media programs? Were you aware of these? Which things do you see as most valuable to you?

I think that these are excellent tools. I didn't know about them before this, so I'm glad we were able to see these tonight. It's just good to know that they are out there if we need them.

What are your thoughts, concerns and questions about library program evaluations?

I think the evalutations are excellent. In general I think that the evaluations had items that were very important. It also made me think about who and when my clerk will be evaluated, and that it might be a good idea to do an informal evaluation with her two or three times a year. Also, I'm assuming that I will be evaluated every three years like I have been, but we'll see if I get skipped over or not.

Questions about your Online Database Presentation or your Library Lesson? What is your topic?

I think you answered all of my questions in class. Topic is CultureGrams.

(Louis Question) – How has our class and this week’s activities effected you in your professional life? Discuss two things that you have learned about this week.

1. I went through my reference section and weeded a good portion. I also moved the whole section to an area that I felt made more sense for the students and teachers. Learning about reference in class has really helped me feel that reference isn't so overwhelming.

2. I e-maile out my web 2.0 internet log and had positive feedback on it. I am also searching through each of your logs and starting to develop internet logs for each of the content areas in my school

  1. I'm glad to hear that you've been weeding your reference section and have moved the whole thing so that patrons can see and use it more. Great! I'm sure that your staff will really benefit from your Web 2.0 Internet Log, too. You listed some really useful and valuable sites.

  2. I agree that planning carefully when it comes to purchasing reference is important. So much of the information is in online databases, but I think that books still needs to play a role. So, choosing wisely is important.

  3. I am planning on sending your web 2.0 tool log to a few staff members who could really use them. Thanks so much for all that hard work!

  4. I was thinking about sending out my Internet log, but I chose to share it with the people I know will use it. It's kind of sad when you know people won't use a great tool.

  5. Great job applying the knowledge you attained in this class to your library. It sounds like your school will take notice of the changes you are making to help with student/teacher use.
