What did we do this week that you can apply in your school or job and how might you use it?

This week I have learned many things that will help me with my occupation. To start with I have found social bookmarking really fun and helpful. There have been a few websites this week that I have come across that I have bookmarked so I can read later. The reason I like social bookmarking so much is because I can catalog websites to look at later and hopefully I will. This week was a good reminder of how useful screencasts can be. I have used these in the past, but of course like most things I get busy and don't get around to creating many. Next week I may be out of school for jury duty a couple of days, so I decided to make screencasts for students to view on those days. This way I’m still at school, even when I’m not. Also, I'm going to work on creating some screencasts to embed in my wiki, so that students will always have help available. Another thing we did this week that can apply at work is the wiki I have started to create. I am using wikispaces and I have dabbled with this before and then never did much with it. Well, now I have created one for my library. I have found wikispaces very easy-to-use this time around and think it will be really fun to have students and other teachers add things to the wiki as well. Lastly, I found it rather ironic that on Friday this week a teacher was in the library and the students had a choice on what they could do for a project and I had five or six groups create podcasts and another five or six groups create videos, so the information from class this week really could not have come at a better time. Overall, I think everything we did this week has helped me.

  1. I personally love wikispaces also! I have never created one before but now I have started and realized that it is surprisingly simple. I even have a few teachers that are interested in starting a wiki for their own class. That's fantastic that you are going to have groups working on podcasts and videos in the upcoming weeks. It's funny how everything in this class happens at pretty much the exact moment that we end up using it in our library.

  2. Serendipity when what you're learning is what you're applying. Congratulations on assisting people.
